Narrative Designer & Principal Writer
Bonaparte - A Mechanized Revolution is an alt-history strategy game and political sim. You play as Bonaparte, a young Captain, on the eve of the French Revolution-- pilot giant robots, thwart your political enemies, and take control of France. Contains choices and branching dialogue.
I was the Principal Writer for this project, writing and implementing 4 different storylines focused on a unique political faction.
Bonaparte's scenes were created to be modular, in order to fulfill the creative vision, within the project's production constraints.

Adapting Historical Figures
Bonaparte has 10 central characters-- all are based off of historical figures. When I was brought on to the project, I did research on these figures to create true-to-spirit voice samples and biographies, to be used as a guide for future content.

Injecting the World with Colossi
Prior to joining the project, there was only a single mention of the Colossi (the giant robots) in the introduction. Rather, the story's emphasis was on the the political state of France.
I felt that culture, in this universe, should revolve around Colossi. After all, the Colossi is symbolic of military power and prestige-- and, most importantly, integral to the player's power fantasy.
To better immerse the player in this alternate universe, I did an editing pass to ensure that the Colossi were relevant to the player. All new content was written and planned with Colossi in mind.

Scene Variations
Bonaparte branches into 4 distinct storylines, depending on the player's choices. Each route has a similar narrative rhythm, though the player will interact with different characters depending on their route.

In the following section, Bonaparte's party mate suggests betraying their leader and overthrowing the King.
This plot point varies if the player chooses to side with the Royalists, at the start of the game.
In this version, their party mate recounts the power struggle between the King and his brother-- and how Bonaparte might take advantage.
